Shadow Wall
Works As Part Of Jason Bruges Studio
Job: Creative Technologist
Shadow Underpass is an underpass in Wembley, London which is one of the main routes used to travel to Wembley stadium for thousands of commuters. This project was commissioned by Quintain and Jason Bruges Studio appointed to develop the bespoke project. The underpass uses custom hardware designed at Jason Bruges Studio which have InfraRed sensors within. Throughout the underpass there are IR emitters which shine onto the wall. When the IR sensors on the boards are blocked, they generate data which is then converted into the shape of your shadow. The placement of the IR emitters distort the shadow of your body across the wall. The outlines generated are captured and displayed back onto the wall, acting as a mirror.
