ABOUT ME
Hi There! In case you’ve gotten to this page and don’t know where you are, I’m Joel. I’m a lighting designer and creative technologist based in London. I’ve always enjoyed the thrill and atmosphere that the entertainment industry brings, along with its challenges which keep you thinking on your feet. After discovering a passion for lighting at secondary school through the school’s technical team, I decided to continue my education in lighting at the University of South Wales (Wales) on the BSc(Hons) Lighting Design And Technology Course. I graduated from the course in 2021.
Day to day I work for a design studio in London as a Creative Technologist / Lighting Designer. My daily work ranges from managing the electrical and technical specifications of artworks to coding how they run and what the artwork displays. Alongside this, I also work as a freelance lighting designer / visual systems technician and have worked with a variety of different companies within the entertainment industry which include: Hillsong, The Royal National Theatre (UK), Holy Trinity Brompton, SAINT Church, IRIS Festival, Sing Gospel, WLDT, Only Men Aloud.
I’ve have been fortunate to have had part of my work featured as part of the Royal Academy Of Arts in London, as well as other projects I have worked on winning awards such as the Red Dot design award.
“Lighting design is one of multiple sectors of the entertainment industry that help contribute to creating a magical experience for the audience. Lighting design is a powerful tool. I love being able to control the atmosphere of a place or stage. To me, Lighting design works hand in hand with video design, each complementing each other. Using these two disciplines you can help make the impossible, possible.”
“I’m passionate about working in the entertainment and live event industry. I love collaborating with a team of people, listening to the ideas surrounding a project and then helping create an experience that makes people go ‘WOW!’. Seeing a project from the very beginning to the very end is an amazing privilege.”
