Sing Gospel 2014

‘Sing Gospel’ is an event held in a church. People from different choirs across the UK come and sing gospel music. This year was the first time I had heard of ‘Sing Gospel’ and I had no idea what to expect. From looking at previous photos I saw that it was quite a big event and that lots of people go to it. I was hoping to raise the bar for this event this year.
A friend that had done the event a couple of years ago lead me in the right direction. He laid out the church on a piece of paper so that I could start designing where all the lights will go. I tried to focus on having aerial effects above the choir to make them stand out. At the front I had 2 x Martin Mac 600s focused on the choir, one on each side. Then on both sides of the choir I had a Chauvet Q-Wash 560z, these fixtures were great if I needed to wash the sides of the choirs or produce beams in the sky. Behind the Choir, there were 2 x Chauvet Rouge R2 Spots which produced the aerial effects, beside them were 2 Martin 250s however because the Rouges are LEDs, they could not compete. At the very back there was a Martin Mac 500 which could produce aerial with the Rouge. A Geni Spin Master 3, now I wouldn’t normally use extremely DJ-y stuff, however we had this sitting in the store room and I wanted to try to challenge my self to some how use it. The Geni Spin Master has a rotating barrel full of mirrors, so I tried to recreate a sunburst look with it, and it turned out really well. Up-lighting the 2 pillars beside the choir and the back stained glass windows, I had Elation Opti RGB pars which I had recently bought. Finally along the pews are the back, behind the choir, was 6 EA-8080s uplighting the roof. I used an ETC Ion for my main desk and an Avolites Titan One to control the Spin Master, EA-8080s and the Elation Opti Pars. The feedback that I got during and after the event was overwhelming. I had people come up to me and say that it was the best ‘Sing Gospel’ there has ever been.
A few weeks after the event, there was an article published in the local newspaper, getwestlondon.co.uk, with amazing comments on the lighting.

‘A striking light and laser show further enhanced the celebratory atmosphere, which was without doubt an evening to remember’
